About GMADA

The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) was constituted by the Government of Punjab on 14 August 2006, under Section 29(1) of the Punjab Regional and Town Planning and Development Act, 1995. It was created to plan, develop and regulate the fast-growing urban belt around Mohali in a coordinated manner, rather than leaving it to scattered municipal and private development.

GMADA's jurisdiction covers Mohali (SAS Nagar), Zirakpur, Dera Bassi, Banur, Kharar, Mullanpur, Rupnagar (Ropar), Fatehgarh Sahib and Mandi Gobindgarh — together referred to as the Greater Mohali region. The Chief Minister of Punjab serves as Chairman of GMADA, with a Chief Administrator overseeing day-to-day operations through an executive committee, a planning and design committee, and a budget and accounts scrutiny committee.
GMADA functions as a regional development authority under the umbrella of PUDA (Punjab Urban Planning & Development Authority), which is the state's apex urban development body. In practical terms, GMADA acquires and develops land, allots residential, commercial and institutional plots through e-auction and draw of lots, builds roads, water supply and sewage infrastructure, and has delivered landmark projects such as Aerocity, Eco City, Education City and Medicity in the Mohali region.
